Overview & Procedure

What the treatment is and how it's performed

What it is

With snoring or mild to moderate sleep apnoea, the splint can mean less snoring and better sleep. You wear it at night, and it holds the lower jaw slightly forward so the airway stays more open. It is made from impressions of your teeth.

The splint must be fitted and adjusted over several visits. The doctor or dentist decides with you how many check-ups you need, and some have a new sleep study to see the effect.

  1. The doctor assesses your snoring, often with a sleep study.
  2. The dentist takes impressions of your teeth, and the splint is made for you.
  3. The splint is fitted, and you come back for adjustment.
