Overview & Procedure

What the treatment is and how it's performed

What it is

With a lump, spot or other change in the mouth that does not go away, the doctor can remove it and send it for a tissue test. It is done under local anaesthetic, and you find out what the change is.

The procedure is usually done once, and you get the tissue result afterwards. Based on the result, the doctor decides whether you need a check-up or more treatment.

  1. The doctor examines the change.
  2. The area is numbed.
  3. The change is removed, often with dissolving stitches.
